The Betty Brown Historical Centre celebrates the contribution of women to the development of rural Western Australia. Creative Spaces worked with the Shire of West Arthur from the early stages of the project, including assessment of the collection and development of themes and layouts.

Interpretation is structured around thematic zones, using silhouettes, objects and layered storytelling. Central walls and display units were designed with hidden castors to allow flexibility, while integrated storage supports the growing collection.

The material palette draws from the surrounding rural landscape. Soft colours reference seasonal changes, and subtle lace patterns acknowledge Betty Brown’s legacy and generosity.

The completed centre offers a flexible and considered space for sharing women’s stories and was unveiled on International Women’s Day.
