Carrolup coolingah wirn (the spirit of Carrolup children) was a temporary exhibition designed for the John Curtin Gallery. The exhibition featured artworks created between 1946 and 1950 by Noongar children of the Stolen Generations at Carrolup Native Settlement near Katanning.
Creative Spaces designed the exhibition to foreground truth-telling and acknowledge the impact of colonisation on the children and their families. Artworks from the Herbert Mayer Collection were presented alongside objects and interpretive panels that provided cultural and historical context.
The design approach prioritised respect, clarity and space for reflection. Interpretation supported understanding without overshadowing the power of the artworks themselves.
The exhibition shared the stories of Carrolup while plans are developed for a future building dedicated to housing the full collection and supporting ongoing truth-telling.
