Exchange Hotel Interpretation

The Exchange Hotel is a prominent heritage site in the centre of Pinjarra. After closing in 2008 due to the deteriorating condition of its buildings, the site presented an opportunity for renewal that could respect its history while supporting new uses.

Creative Spaces worked closely with Element Advisory, who developed the interpretation strategy, and Hunt Architects, who led the architectural design. Our role was to translate the site’s heritage narrative into clear and engaging interpretation that aligned with the conservation plan and the proposed redevelopment approach.

The interpretation responds to the layered history of the Exchange Hotel and its relationship to Pinjarra’s agricultural and social life. Design decisions were guided by the need to respect heritage fabric while supporting a contemporary public setting.

The broader redevelopment aims to transform the Exchange Hotel into a regional landmark once again. Through a mix of uses and experiences, the project celebrates Pinjarra’s past while creating a place for ongoing community engagement and activity.
