Creative Spaces developed the Katanning Wayfinding & Signage Strategy to support a cohesive and easy-to-navigate visitor experience across the town. Often described as the heart of the Great Southern, Katanning functions as a regional hub with a mix of local activity, through-traffic and tourism.
The brief focused on improving clarity and consistency for both vehicular and pedestrian movement. Clear wayfinding was needed to help visitors orient themselves, locate key destinations and understand the town’s layout, while also supporting everyday use by the local community.
The strategy identifies a coordinated suite of signage types, including gateway signage, directional signage and pedestrian wayfinding elements. Each sign type was designed to work as part of a broader system, ensuring legibility, consistency and ease of understanding across different scales and contexts.
Design considerations included visibility, accessibility and durability, as well as the integration of signage into the existing streetscape. The result is a practical and flexible framework that supports tourism, improves navigation and can be implemented progressively over time as the town grows and evolves.
