Creative Spaces was engaged by St John of God Subiaco Hospital to design a digital history wall as part of the redevelopment of the main entry. The project aimed to communicate the hospital’s evolution since 1898, recognising the contributions of the Sisters of St John of God, key milestones and the hospital’s ongoing role in the community.
A User Group guided the project to ensure the content and experience would be relevant to a broad audience, including staff, patients and visitors. The brief required a solution that could balance historical storytelling with the sensitivities of a healthcare environment, creating an experience that felt accessible, respectful and easy to engage with.
Creative Spaces addressed both spatial and interpretive challenges through a design that combines a structured narrative with a strong visual identity. A stained-glass motif informed the design approach, expressed through a mosaic of softly coloured, textured glass tiles. This created a calm and contemplative backdrop, while subtle kinetic lighting introduced a gentle sense of movement.
The completed digital history wall acts as both an orientation point and a place for reflection, offering visitors, patients and staff a quiet moment to connect with the hospital’s legacy of care, service and community.
