Strawberry Hill / Barmup is a place of national heritage significance with deep cultural meaning for Noongar people and an important role in early colonial history. The site was used for gatherings and negotiations long before colonisation and later became Western Australia’s first government farm.
Creative Spaces was engaged for the first stage of a broader interpretation project. This included new outdoor signage, exhibition displays and custom furniture for the Main House and Visitor Hub. The brief focused on improving visitor understanding of the site’s significance and presenting its layered stories with clarity and care.
Consultation with Traditional Owners highlighted the importance of native vegetation and its integration into interpretation. These elements were woven throughout the graphics and displays, alongside a new branding guide for the site.
The resulting interpretation strengthens the visitor experience and supports a more informed and respectful understanding of Barmup’s cultural and historical values.
