Creative Spaces designed a temporary exhibition celebrating 190 years of The West Australian, marking the newspaper’s long role in documenting life in Western Australia. Hosted at WA Museum Boola Bardip, the exhibition invited visitors behind the scenes of daily news production.
The exhibition combined large-scale floor graphics, interpretive panels, archival objects and video content to explain how stories are researched, written, illustrated and printed. Interactive elements and activity sheets encouraged hands-on engagement, while a touchscreen kiosk developed by the museum team highlighted the work of cartoonist Dean Alston.
Design decisions focused on making the production process clear and approachable. The exhibition balanced historical material with contemporary storytelling, reflecting how the newspaper has evolved alongside changes in technology and audience expectations.
The result was an engaging public exhibition that helped visitors better understand the role of journalism in Western Australian life and the ongoing work behind a daily newspaper.
