A part of the Mandurah Community Museum complex, the historic courtroom of Mandurah – built in the 1960s – has its own story to tell.
The Mandurah Community Museum Courtroom Interpretation is themed around key events, people and changes that have taken place across time in Mandurah, and the courthouse itself. A clever use of sound and space bring life to the stories of locals linked to the courthouse. Key features have been highlighted with spot lighting, creating ambience and focus within the space. A stylised map printed to lower floor level provides opportunities to see an aerial shot of the landscape and the natural crossing areas. Colours inspired by Mandurah’s seaside landscape bring a calming presence to the space. Interactive elements include typewriters, oral histories and a screen-based game.
The courtroom exhibition space was officially opened in July 2019.
