Designed by Creative Spaces, Carrolup coolingah wirn (the spirit of Carrolup children) is an exhibition on display at John Curtin Gallery. The exhibition features a series of artworks from the Herbert Mayer Collection, created between 1946 and 1950 by Noongar children of the Stolen Generations.
The artworks were completed at Carrolup Native Settlement – a mission in remote bushland located near Katanning. The artworks are accompanied by objects and a series of interpretive panels which focus on truth-telling and acknowledging the impact of colonisation on these children and their subsequent families.
This is a temporary exhibition to share the stories of Carrolup while plans for a new building dedicated to truth-telling and housing the full collection of 122 artworks is developed.
This project was completed in November 2021.
